1960 ~ 2022

Andy Oaker - where do we begin? A gentleman in every sense of the word who would bring the 'craic' and describe things as being 'gert lush'. This is exactly what he was "gert lush!". Andy was a bringer of joy, compassion, care, humour and love. What better way to celebrate the life of such a beloved man than at Exeter Cathedral?

If you are reading this then you were fortunate enough to be blessed by having Andy in your life, whether he was a family member, dear friend, colleague or just someone you heard about via his many travel blogs and adventures with Joe. No matter how you knew him, he would've made you smile because that is what he did.

In his passing, Andy has left behind the love of his life, his devoted and loyal husband Joe. They were a pair to always see the good and were able to use their remaining time together to discuss their adventures, memories and their love. As well as this Andy, as a meticulous organiser provided information about his funeral wishes which is what brings you here today. If he had the energy, we're sure there would be a list with exact timings of every single detail. If you know, you know.

The service takes place on Saturday 3rd September at Exeter Cathedral. The service will start at 11:00am prompt. Never wanting to be late, especially to his own funeral, Andy will arrive as only he could in true style on the evening of Friday 2nd September and lie overnight in the Cathedral.

There will be a retiring collection for cancer charities close to Joe and Andy’s hearts. Please click on the Hospiscare or FORCE Cancer Charity logos to make your donation. All that we ask are no flowers please. Whatever you would spend on flowers, please donate to one of the charities that have supported both Joe and Andy during this time.

We encourage all guests to please be seated by 10:40am. Please note that there are reserved seats in the Quire for family and close friends. These people will be told ahead of Saturday where to sit.

Andy always wanted people to arrive on time and we will follow this last tradition for Andy.

You are not required to wear black but smart casual for the service is required.

The song 'Jerusalem' will be sung, one of Andy's favourite hymns. So please brush up your vocal chords and let's sing this as loudly as possible and lift the roof from the Cathedral in his memory. Let's even blow the roof off of Cote whilst we're at it! It's not that far away!

Thank you for your kindness, the messages and the outpourings of love. It's a real blessing to Andy's loved ones to read how he positively impacted and brought joy to so many lives.

To those of you who cannot attend the ceremony, please do feel free to make a donation in Andy's memory which will be a long lasting legacy to him. Also raise a glass to this fantastic man.

Thank you.
